Beautiful Girl of the Week : Brooke a Hard Working, Dog Loving, Student!

Beautiful Girl of the Week is a series of Beautiful Girls who are stand outs for what they contribute to the world through their beautiful actions!  We feature the Beautiful Girl of the Week on the Rewrite Beautiful blog as an attempt to inspire other girls and women to use their own gifts and talents to impact their communities. Our hope is that bringing positive attention to women’s actions will inspire them to embrace their own creative calling!

Brooke is Beautiful! I know the amazing Brookester (as I call her) from a mentorship program we both volunteer in. We mentor girls with eating disorders and addictions through their recovery. Sounds pretty intense and depressing doesn’t it? Some days it is, but the days Brooke is around it isn’t. Brooke can turn a horrific life event into a Napolean Dynamite skit. The girl has a dry sense of humor and quick wit that puts the heaviness of life into perspective which is why I wanted to give ya’ll a little peek into this amazing girls life.

Irvina: Hellooooooooooooooooooooo Brookester! So love, tell all of our fine friends about a fun project you’re currently working on?

Brooke: Currently I am applying to graduate schools to study Marriage and Family Therapy.  I also work as a support staff at Sober Living by the Sea and I mentor women. However, nothing is more important to me than walking and playing with any dog I can get my hands on! I am multi-talented, don't you know.

Irvina: You’re so stinkin’ cute. This is why I love going on walks with you. You find every dog within a two block radius and make sure we introduce ourselves! So tell us, what are you passionate about?

Brooke: I am passionate about dogs and psychology research.  I will go to great lengths to pet a big fluffernutter of a dog. I don’t think it’s ironic that "dog" is the dyslexic "God." I also enjoy reading psychology research papers and psychology news. Even though I'm a believer in 12 Step Recovery, I am also am passionate about the psychology of spirituality and its effects on human behavior.

Irvina: I think you’re going to be a brilliant therapist! I can totally see you bringing your dog to work and making your clients laugh. So when you’re not applying to Grad School’s what do you do for fun?

Brooke loves her pupsBrooke: I love to go for walks on the board walk and the back bay (with the dogs of course), go to the movies and curl up in bed with my pajamas and watch anything sarcastic and funny on Netflix.

Irvina: You’re so cute! I love imaging you taking your dogs on adventures! So, which action of CREATIVITY, KINDNESS and STRENGTH do you look for in your friends and why?

Brooke: Most of the women I surround myself are built with strength and kindness.  Many have been to the depths of isolation and hell. They have become willing to reach out, take direction, and be of service to others.  The women I surround myself with today are kind and loving and show concern for others. None of us are perfect, but due to our strength we can make changes. We can all be honest and make today different than yesterday.

Irvina: That’s beautiful Brooke! I think you’re a pretty strong chick myself! So being a strong chick, who is the most beautiful woman you know and why?

Brooke: The most beautiful woman I know is a woman named Marie.  She works multiple jobs, attends school, makes her own way financially, helps women out, and has shows nothing but strength, humor, humility, and love.

Irvina: Beautiful! Beautiful! And one last question, what do you wish young women knew about beauty?

Brooke: I wish young women knew that beauty has does not have to do with the outward appearance.  It has to do with action and balance.  We need to take care of ourselves and take care of others and God will love us all no matter what.
