Mel is BEautiful – Fundraising intern with creative ideas and confidence

Beautiful Girl of the Week is a series of Beautiful Girls who are stand outs for what they contribute to the world through their beautiful actions!  We feature the Beautiful Girl of the Week on the Rewrite Beautiful blog as an attempt to inspire other girls and women to use their own gifts and talents to impact their communities. Our hope is that bringing positive attention to women’s actions will inspire them to embrace their own creative calling!

Mel  is our savvy, sharp Fundraising intern from Chapman University! She has been helping us this semester with fundraising, grant research, think tanks, branding and repping Rewrite Beautiful on college campuses.  The thing I love most about Mel is her opinions – She is confident and isn’t afraid to share what she thinks, even if it differs from the group. Already, Mel has had quite a few of experiences that have changed her. Learn a little more about what makes Mel BEautiful through our interview below:

Irvina: What sparked your interest to intern with Rewrite Beautiful?

I am more than aware of how negatively young women see their bodies today. The importance of creating a positive self-image and high self-esteem cannot be stressed enough in the materialistic society we live in today. Many young girls grow up without the positive influences and help I was lucky enough to receive. My heart goes out to these girls so when I came across Rewrite Beautiful I immediately felt it was a place I would thoroughly enjoy interning and be able to grow from in my own ways.

Irvina: Well, we’re stoked you’re on our team! You’ve been incredible! What word would you say defines your life thus far?

Mel:  The word, experiences. I have had experiences both positive and negative, I have learned valuable lessons and developed a remarkable sense of self-awareness.

Irvina: What makes you most angry?

Mel: The thing in the world that makes me most angry is the control of women through repression.

Irvina: Who or what have you loved most in your life and why?

The thing I’ve loved most in my life is growing up with the opportunity to have horses.  Horses have taught me so many more things than I could ever convey in words. Simply put, horses have taught me love, responsibility, maturity, and respect.

Irvina: You did an incredible job this semester Mel. I know wherever the road takes you, you will be fully capable and confident in making it into an amazing ride!
